• The Rise and Fall of St. George

I’ve been working on something very dear to my heart for the last year, and I can finally announce that it is happening.

The mural commissioned by me and Jonny was a tribute to our beautiful friend George. The artist Scott Marsh elevated him to sainthood as a representation of how highly he was regarded by so many people. He was revered by the queer community, outsiders, and fans of his divine voice, music and the bravery in how he lived his life.

It lived for eleven months as a beautiful part of Newtown culture and was destroyed two days after the “yes” result was announced from the same-sex marriage survey. I’ve written an electronic music-theatre work about the whole experience incorporating some amazing soloists that I love, a choir and some weird electronic music. It sounds and feels like the initial hopelessness, the consequent and continuing fear for safety, the joy of community and the will to continue to grow, love, express and move forward.

This concert is a work in progress that I would love to share with you. The dream is to get it to a full theatre experience, but Mardi Gras have offered me this amazing chance to share it with you as it grows. More details to come, but trust me, grab a ticket now by clicking here. This will be one of the best things i have ever attempted. Love wins.

  • Itch-E & Scratch-E

After a deep slumber, Itch-E & Scratch-E returned from the rave in 2010 and released "Hooray For Everything" on Ministry of Sound. Check out the results on Youtube.
"Other Planets (feat MDNA)" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pG7RB-GOz4g. Love this track and clip.
"r.e.F.R.E.S.H. (Feat Scribe)" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zTDpqJt-AU. The clip is a bit shit, but the track is tops.
And finally, my favourite piece of music on the album "Imperial Rockets".  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQJFm7IZpUo
Our friend Rob mack (no relation) made this psychadelic extravaganza. You can still find the album on iTunes if you like what you hear.

We have gone back into semi hibernation and return sporadically when old rave promoters like to relive their misspent youths.

  • Beautiful (Film Score)

    Hey Peeps,

I've just finished my first movie score which I am super proud of, so I wanted to share a bit of it to those that are interested. I don't think I'll release it but I'm putting my fave bits up on my myspace player for you to listen to.

"Beautiful" is a low budget aussie movie portraying the darker side of suburbia. It's in cinemas now so be sure to check it out.

Today I've put these tracks up:

    1. Beautiful. This is the opening title sequence. It's kind of a fractured fucked up fairytale piece that came to me as I was riding my motorbike.

    2. The Backyard of Earthy Delights. This is for when one of the characters Danny goes wandering through the neighbours garden looking for evidence of nastiness.

    3. On A Mission. Danny goes to confront the killer - a mash of string and electronics.

    4. Sherrie's Lament - This piece is for when Sherrie goes to have an abortion. The pictures moved me so much I wrote possibly the saddest peice of music I've ever written. When I first played this to the producer and director they were both crying. I used the opportunity to ask for more budget so I could have real strings and they ended up saying yes. yaaaaaaay!

So that's it for now, stay posted and I'll chuck up some more music from the film soon.

Feel free to write and tell me what you think.

    I hope you enjoy it.

    stay happy

  • Mr Whippy & More!

    Hey peeps,

From time to time i get some bizarre requests for production stuff, but this latest one is worth sharing.
Vivacity asked me to remix "Greensleeves" (the classic Mr Whippy van theme) for a promotion of outdoor events they've been doing.
At first i thought it was a kind of a strange idea, but when I did it, I ended up loving it! Everyone that's heard it is into it too.
Anyway, they made a short, cool clip for it which is now up on youtube. Check it out HERE.
Also i've added some photos to Myspace of me and DJ Seymour Butz doing our thing around town and most recently at the Sydney Big Day Out in the Silent Disco (Ooh and there's one with this hot chick I met too).

    More soon, love ya.
    cheers mac!

  • Hey Hey It's Esther Blueburger (Film Soundtrack)

The soundtrack to the new Australian movie Hey Hey It's Esther Blueburger is in store now, with the film starring Keisha Castle-Hughes and Toni Collette, opening nationally on March 20.
Paul Mac's lead track "The Only One" sits rather nicely alongside a host of other cool Australian artists including label mate Missy Higgins with her track "The Wrong Girl".

"The Only One" was written by Paul Mac specifically for the film, and features stunning vocals from Sydney songstress Bertie Blackman and the Sydney Children's Choir.
Have you checked out the 'making of' the song and the video clip on Paul's MySpace page yet? Go here!
